Quality from South Tyrol
Markets
With a production of nearly 1 million tonnes, South Tyrol is one of the “big players” in apple sales. Every second apple harvested in Italy comes from South Tyrol. This represents 50% of the Italian and 10% of the European apple harvest. Almost 45% of the apples are sold in South Tyrol and the rest of Italy. The next most important export market is Germany with around 20%. Spain, Scandinavia and the Arab countries are also important markets for South Tyrolean apples. South Tyrolean organic apples, which have been grown in South Tyrol since the 1980s, are also very popular. With a market share of almost 40%, South Tyrol is currently the largest organic apple supplier in Europe. More information: South Tyrol – Apple Country brochure (pdf) 1.30 MB » download
Quality from South Tyrol
The most important characteristic of South Tyrolean apples is evident at first bite: every variety tastes excellent. To achieve this – and much more – the South Tyrolean orchardists do their best every day!
A sealed deal
Since 2005, 13 South Tyrolean apple varieties have been protected all over Europe as a regional specialty – with the European seal of quality Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
To guarantee the origin and traditional production of the apples, exact production regulations and a strenuous system of monitoring are required.
Trust ist good
You can see immediately by the European seal of quality of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) that creation, production and processing all take place in South Tyrol. The high standards of quality and integrated or organic production are constantly checked by an independent monitoring agency. » more
